Greece’s religious world is grieving for the death of the Abbot of the new brotherhood of the Monastery Esfigmenou, Archimandrite Chrysostomos .
Archimandrite Chrysostomos, whose name was Christos Katsoulieris, was born 77 years ago in Halandri, Athens. At the age of 25 he was ordained Deacon and a year later Priset by the Metropolitan Iakovos of Elassona.
He served in various regions of Greece as well as in Great Britain. He was a graduate of the Theological School of the University of Athens. In 2005 he was elected Abbot of the Esphigmenou Monastery.
Due to the known confrontation with the old brotherhood living in the monastery, he and his brotherhood never settled in Esphigmenou Monastery, using as their headquarters the associated building of Esphigmenou which is located in Karyes.
