As the Patriarch Kirill said economic sanctions can't harm Russia. The head of Russian Orthodox Church addressed compatriots on National Unity Day.
"They impose sanctions on Russia because they want to instill sense of hopelessness in Russian people. When there is created economic problems decreases self-consciousness and people more think about themselves.
This is aim of western sanctions but Russia never was scared because of the enemy. We used to always defeat them," stated the Patriarch of Russia.
Patriarch Kirill was clearly referring to the sanctions imposed on Russia by the European Union and the United States after Russia annexed the Crimea, seizing the territory from Ukraine.
"Russia has never been afraid of external enemies," the Russian prelate said in his exhortation for national unity.
