UK: first Greek Orthodox Secondary School was approved to open in September 2013

Britain’s very first Greek Orthodox Secondary School was approved to open in September 2013. It is one of only 28 secondary Free Schools nationally, approved for 2013 opening by the Department for Education. St Andrew the Apostle is an 11-19 secondary school serving the whole community, welcoming all those families looking for a high performing school based on the Christian values of the Greek Orthodox School.

Spokesman Yiannis Pareas said “We are overwhelmed and want to thank all our supporters for their work and prayers. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to open a school that serves the community in Barnet and Enfield as well as the wider Greek Orthodox community in North London.

St Andrew the Apostle is based on the Christian faith and moral principles of the Greek Orthodox Church, and we are delighted to be working with the Russell Education Trust to establish a school with the very highest academic standards.

The long-term aim of the Classical Education Trust and RET is to ensure that a state funded school can increase the number of students from all back grounds progressing to university: and studying maths, sciences and the classical subjects”.
