When Huffington Post editor-in-chief Arianna Huffington sat down with Canada's George Stroumboulopoulos last week, it didn't take long for the conversation to take a very personal turn.
In fact, it took just one question:
"What do you remember of Chris Hitchens?" Strombo asked, referring to the essayist, journalist and charming "troublemaker" who died of cancer last December.
"Chris Hitchens and I were very close," she began, explaining that she had met him in London. "He even spoke some Greek." "It was tragic," she added. "He had this whole adversarial relationship with God. When you lose the battle with life and you don't believe in anything else, that must make it incredibly hard."
In the interview, which aired Tuesday night, Strombo didn't pass on
the opportunity to plumb the spiritual depths with Huffington, asking,
"Do you believe there's something else?"
"A thousand per cent," she replied.
"Is it the Judeo-Christian God ... are you down with what the Buddhists are into?" he pressed.
"It doesn't matter for me," she said. "The important thing is the
recognition that there is a spiritual reality beyond our material
reality — that life is partly this journey to learn more and more about
it, understand it more, live it better.
"That for me, is what makes sense of a lot of things that happen in life."

speech at the Digital Media Summit in Toronto. Read what she had to say
