A British lawmaker has warned that legalizing gay marriage in Britain would affect the future of the royal family throwing the British monarchy into crisis with two queens on the throne.
Conservative MP Peter Bone has said that Britain could have two queens on the throne if the government legalizes gay marriage, reported the Sun. As the British government is pressing ahead with plans to legalize same sex marriage, Bone has called for an emergency summit of Commonwealth leaders to reconsider the plans. Bone asserted that the new legislation would lead to a crisis within the British monarchy as a homosexual king or queen may ascend to the throne.
Bone said that a homosexual monarch could conceive a child by either sperm donor or surrogate mother, which would have serious consequences for the royal family. The donor or the surrogate could gain legal rights to a peerage. “I can't believe that the Government has gone headlong into this without it being in the manifesto or discussed by Commonwealth leaders,” said Bone. Earlier last week, Britain’s Catholic Church also wrote a scathing letter against the British government’s plans for legalizing gay marriage to be read out at services in 2500 churches.
Furthermore, the head of the Catholic Church in Scotland, Cardinal Keith O’Brien, severely criticised the British government for its support for same sex marriage calling the proposals “a grotesque subversion of a universally accepted human right.”
