He danced the Kalamatiano and Tsamiko…
Tom Hanks has become more Greek than the Greeks themselves, as he has
been meticulously observing the traditions and customs of our country,
leading the Greek community celebrations in the US. In fact, he
celebrated this Easter with all his heart in a most Greek fashion! Along
with his wife Rita Wilson, of Greek origin, they were guests at the
house of a friend of the same descent, where the award-winning actor
gave a recital demonstrating that he has turned Greece… into a way of
life. He sung in Greek, danced the Kalamatiano and Tsamiko, and
celebrated with a bouzouki.
Other guests included other diaspora Greeks, such as Corinna Tsopei and Melina Kanakarides, as well as also Della Rounick, the famous socialite, who captured moments of the festivities with her camera and commented on her Facebook page. As she said, Hanks was the “surprise” of the party, with his wife “making him more of a Christian than us”. She also revealed that during the Good Friday procession, the actor carried the Epitaph, explaining at the same time that behind all these actions is not his wife but Dorothy, his mother-in-law, a “genuine Greek mother-in-exile!”
