The FBI discovered the sexual relationship between Petraeus and biographer Paula Brontgouel (the woman under investigation)
Bret Baier just reported that we’ve learned new details about the extramarital affair that prompted General David Petraeus to step down as director of the CIA.
The affair was with his biographer Paula Broadwell, pictured in the image below.

The relationship was revealed in the course of an FBI investigation. The FBI was investigating a much broader case and in the course of that investigation Broadwell’s name came up. The FBI followed that lead, and in doing so Petraeus’ name came up. The FBI for some reason was concerned that perhaps Petraeus was some sort of victim or that there may have been some sort of security breach, but there has been no evidence discovered to back up such concerns.
