Salmond, a politician and current First Minister of Scotland, is on the
verge of a historic victory according to a landmark ICM poll,
indicating that proponents of Scottish independence need just over two
percent to achieve their goal.
Salmond insists that independence would
be a natural evolution of the Scottish political institutions which
would ultimately gain control over welfare, pensions, taxation and
defense of the country.
On the other hand, British Labor Party
politician Gordon Brown claims that while Scotland shares “risk and
resources” with the rest of the UK its economy and its people are
"better protected."

The ICM survey for today’s Scotland on Sunday shows a
decline in the No vote from 46 percent to 42 percent over the past
month, while the Yes vote has remained steady at 39 percent. With the 19
percent "don’t knows" excluded from the equation the NO vote stands at
52 percent and the Yes vote - at 48 percent. It should be noted that
this is the highest level of Yes support to be registered by an
independent opinion poll, according to The Scotsman.
