Byzantium existed for more than a thousand years

Byzantium is the only state that continuously survived from ancient times to the dawn of the modern age. Byzantium existed for more than a thousand years. Constantine the Great, born Nis, ( today Serbia, 270/288-337) was Roman Emperor from 306 to 337. He established Christianity as the official religion of the Empire and founded Constantinople, the capital of the Byzantine Empire.
The double-headed eagle was the symbol of the Palaiologoi dynasty. One of the most recognizable (other than the cross) and beloved Greek symbols, the double-headed eagle of Byzantium.
