Whether it was divine intervention or just plain luck, St George Monastery on Yellowrock NSW survived the fiery inferno that passed through its neighbourhood.
Though little was left of Father Kyriakos Stavronikitianos' living quarters next door.
The two churches on the land and the candle factory were spared and only suffered minimal damaged.
Already the outpouring of support has overwhelmed Father Kyriakos. Via social media, countless Greek Australians have been putting up their hands to offer their services.
The church will remain closed until it is deemed safe to return to the area, and will not have a Sunday service, the Archdiocese says.
The Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of Australia is taking up the initiative to help bring in donations, for Father Kyriakos and all the other victims affected.
The Archdiocese has opened a bank account to raise funds for the monastery. People are urged to donate to the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese Property Trust - St. George Monastery, BSB: 082 057, Account Number: 616 960 042, Bank: NAB.
