Bulgarian Orthodox Church commemorates on Sunday, October 19, the memory of Saint John of Rila.
He is said to have been the first Bulgarian hermit and to have been considered a saint while still alive.
Saint John of Rila is believed to be the founder of the famous Rila Monastery, the largest monastery in Bulgaria, which is also among the most significant Bulgarian cultural and historical sites.
The saint is the patron saint of all Bulgarian people.
Solemn masses will be served on Sunday in the eparchies of the Bulgarian Orthodox Church.
