STOCKTON - There was no shortage of music,
dancing, eating and learning a little something about what goes on
inside that big domed building just south of March Lane this weekend.
St. Basil Greek Orthodox Christian Church threw open its doors to the community for the 54th annual Greek Festival.
"We
open up our house for the community to see Greek traditions," said Tom
Chiarchianis, co-chairman of the festival. "It's like everybody's Greek
for a weekend."
The three-day festival, which wrapped up
Sunday, is the church's largest fundraiser of the year, drawing an
estimated 15,000 visitors.
Those who stopped
by tasted gyros, greek meatballs, chicken souvlaki, Greek pasta and
don't forget the cookies and pastries, including mouth-watering baklava.
They beat the heat, socializing in the shade and perusing booths where vendors sold original artwork and jewelry.
Children performed dances wearing traditional dress. Bands entertained the crowds with live music.
