Then, suddenly, a child soldier appears from nowhere. He must be 12 or 13 -- he's calling the name of his dead comrade, but there's no response from the body on the ground.
The boy cries a little, then immediately returns to the fighting. It's like he's a spectral apparition, his young face briefly emerging from the fog then sinking back into it. The whole episode is so strange, surreal and hard to wrap my head around that I struggle to believe it's happening.
