Local Orthodox congregations and groups will gather Saturday morning for a meal-packaging event for the non-profit Stop Hunger Now.
The meals will be distributed by Stop Hunger Now primarily in Third World countries where hunger is an issue, Stasios said.
Among those participating will be members of St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church, St. Basil the Great Orthodox Church, Cape Fear Chapter No. 408 of the American Hellenic Educational Progressive Association (AHEPA), the Greek Orthodox Youth Association and the St. Nicholas Ladies Philoptochos Society.
The congregations and groups raised more than $10,000 for the project, Stasios said.
Volunteers will assemble, package and pack 6,667 bags of food. When boiled in water, the contents of each bag will feed a family of six.
This is the third such event the St. Nicholas congregation has sponsored in recent years, Stasios said.
