Patriarch John X Yazigi of Antioch and All the East for Greek Orthodox Church and Italian Foreign Minister, Emma Bonino, stressed the importance of dialogue as the only way for solving the crisis in Syria.
In a joint statement following their meeting in Rome on Tuesday, the two sides reiterated the necessity of adopting dialogue as the sole way to help Syria reaches salvation.
They called for abandoning violence and extremism and adopting the logic of peace in a way that helps the Middle East reach safety.
Later, Patriarch Yazigi stressed full agreement with Pope of Vatican Francis's stance towards what is going on in Syria.
In a statement upon his arrival in Beirut, Patriarch Yazigi thanked the Pope for his efforts towards realizing peace in the region and preventing war in it, particularly against Syria.
He pointed out that talks during his meeting with Pope Francis in the Vatican, discussed the situation in the region and the situation of bishops, Greek Orthodox Metropolitan of Aleppo, Bishop Paul Yazigi and Syriac Orthodox Metropolitan of Aleppo, Bishop John Ibrahim, who were kidnapped by the armed terrorist groups in north Aleppo.
