Under the building of Ministry of Education and Religion there is a
small church wedged between two columns. This is the church of ''Agia
Dynami'' – the Holy Power of the Virgin. Do not pass it by, for it is an
oasis of simplicity that has survived since the 16th Century worthy of
your time. Church is dedicated to the birth of Virgin Mary. Agia Dynami was believed to protect women in labor.
It seems that the church could not be demolished and the ministerial building had to respect it... but they could, at least, separate a bit more the pillars and leave it "free"!
The church is very popular and many Athenians enter everyday for a while, when going to work.
Agia Dynami church is one of the most interesting small churches to see
in the city center not because it is something special itself but
because the Ministry of Education was built upon and around the church
(ok, part of it but still it’s funny to see it trying to escape under 3
columns of the big building). Yes, as you can imagine the authorities
preferred to do this because they didn’t want to destroy this old
church.
It was probably built back in the 15th century although it took its shape we see today in 1912. There used to be an ancient temple at the same spot dedicated to Hercules.

Agia Dynami (means
St Power in greek) is dedicated to the birth of Virgin Mary and
according the the legend Agia Dynami was the protector of the pregnants
that were going there to pray.
Although tiny the church is always busy with local people that go there to light a candle, especially in the mornings.
