The Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew arrived in Athens on Monday to attend the events for the completion and restoration of 40 grave monuments at the cemetery of Sisli in Istanbul. Bartholomew will stay in Greece until Friday.
On Wednesday, the Ecumenical Patriarch, will meet with Archbishop of Athens and All Greece Ieronymos. At six in the afternoon he will attend the screening of the film “Then the dead die, when they are forgotten” which talks about the Sisli cemetery at the Athens College. The event will be held at the Athens College, under the auspices of the Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople and the Greek Ministry of Culture.
On Wednesday evening, he will open the international congress of Environmental Health at the Herod Atticus Theatre, an event organized by the Biomedical Research Foundation of Athens Academy, followed by a concert of famous Greek tenor Mario Frangoulis.
On Thursday, Bartholomew will visit the island of Hydra for the first time where after a unanimous decision of the City Council, he will be announced as an honorary citizen.
