Former President George H.W. Bush turned 90 Thursday and received a personal phone call and gift from Russian President Vladimir Putin.
"They spoke at 2 p.m. (Thursday)," Bush spokesman Jim McGrath confirmed to Business Insider. "President Putin also sent a portrait. ... It is a portrait of President Bush as a young Navy ensign in his dress whites."
A Kremlin news release said Putin "warmly congratulated" the 41st President on his milestone birthday and wished him "health and prosperity, noting his personal contribution to the development of the Russian-American relations."
Putin isn't the only art aficionado — former President George W. Bush painted a portrait of Putin earlier this year.
