The escalation of tensions between Israel and Palestine in the situation with the Temple Mount in Jerusalem is a consequence of instigations by Palestine, Olga Slov, deputy head of the Israeli embassy in Moscow, said.
"These problems [including the tensions around the Temple Mount] are a result of massive instigations," Slov told reporters on Friday.
Slov said the provocative statements are sometimes made in contest by representatives of the Palestinian Authority. "Unfortunately, these statements were made by the Palestinian administration in the past few weeks.
It's not only Hamas and the Islamic Movement, but also Mahmud Abbas and other leaders of the Palestinian Authority. They are openly instigating and fuelling tensions, turning this situation into a religious conflict," the Israeli diplomat said.
Slov said the statements that the Israeli authorities plan to end the current status quo on the Temple Mount are groundless. "Our prime minister said more than once that Israel has no intention of changing the status quo on the Temple Mount. All accusations that we are trying to attack the [Al-Aqsa] mosque are ungrounded," Slov said.
