Ramzan Kadyrov, the head of the Chechen Republic, said on Instagram that Tarkhan Batirashvili, an Islamic State (IS), leader has been killed.
"Tarkhan Batirashvili, an enemy of Islam, who called himself Omar Ash-Shishani ["Shishani" is Arabic for "Chechen"], has been killed," Kadyrov said.
"That will happen to everyone who will threaten Russia and the people of Chechnya. This will happen to everyone who sheds Muslims' blood," Kadyrov said.
A man calling himself Omar Ash-Shishani previously appeared in numerous video posted on the Internet, in which he said he was commander of a large group in Syria and made threats against Russia, including threats to come to the Caucasus with his units and begin fighting against Russia.
Kadyrov then said Shishani would not reach Russia and would be killed in the place where he made his threats.
